Meet the Staff

PCThe Rev. Tab E. Cosgrove became the Senior Pastor at St. John Lutheran Church in August 2013.  Pastor Cosgrove was born on October 1, 1960, in York, PA, and is the son of the late Ron and Geraldine Cosgrove.  He married Jackie Miller in 1983, and they relocated to Richmond, Virginia.  In Richmond, Pastor Cosgrove worked as an account rep for 18 years at two separate printing companies.  He was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, an elder, a member of the church council, and as youth leader.


In 2001, in response to God's call to ministry, Pastor Cosgrove enrolled at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO.  After serving his vicarage year at Hope Lutheran Church in Wake Forest, NC, Pastor Cosgrove was ordained into the Holy Ministry on July 23, 2005, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, in Richmond.  He was called as an Assistant Pastor at Hope Lutheran Church (Wake Forest) and, in 2010, was made an Associate Pastor at Hope Lutheran.


Pastor Cosgrove received a BS in Business Administration from Shippensburg University in PA in 1983, and a Master of Divinity Degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO, in 2005.  Pastor Cosgrove and Jackie have two sons: Kevin (born 1991) and Jonathan (born 1998). His personal mission statement is, "To equip the saints for the work of ministry" (Eph. 4:12).



DeniseDenise Wright became the Director of Spiritual Growth for St. John Lutheran Church in August 2005. Denise was born and raised in Hamlin, NY, a small town on the shores of Lake Ontario.


While in 1st Grade she knew that she wanted to be a Lutheran School Teacher; Denise fulfilled that dream by attending Concordia College in Bronxville, NY, and then teaching for 26 years. During her teaching years, she enjoyed teaching children at a variety of levels from Pre-school to Middle School.


Beginning in the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s, Denise worked with a retreat ministry called ACTS. The weekends of worship, learning, and fellowship brought together many different people from various areas and backgrounds.


Denise's passion, whether teaching children, planning and leading retreats, or working at St. John, has always been the spiritual nurture of others, helping others to know the love of Jesus in a very real way. One of Denise's favorite Bible verses is: Colossians 3:17, "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."



LWoodsLydia Woods became the St. John Director of Christian Education Intern in July 2021.  Lydia comes to us all the way from Omaha, Nebraska, where she grew up attending Lutheran schools and going to King of Kings Lutheran Church.  At her home church, Lydia spent time volunteering and interning, which helped her realize her call into ministry.   




Lydia attended Concordia University Irvine in California, graduating in May of 2021 with a bachelor's in Theological Studies and Director of Christian Education minor.  Passionate about children’s and youth ministry, Lydia is excited to join the St. John family for her internship year. 


Lydia has two older brothers and a younger sister.  Her parents and her oldest brother live in Omaha, Nebraska.  Her other brother resides in Los Angeles not far from her sister who is attending Concordia University Irvine and also pursuing a Theological Studies degree and Director of Christian Education minor. 


Lydia's confirmation verse, and since life verse, is Psalm 50:15 “and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you and you will honor me.”  She finds it so special that the God of the universe has a personal relationship with each one of us, wanting to be in consistent communication with us. 



Sherry Gable has been a member at St. John Lutheran Church since 2016, and she became the Parish Administrator at St. John in June of 2018.

Sherry grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Texas in 1989. She attended Professional Court Reporting School while in the Dallas area.


Sherry’s background includes teaching a variety of adult education classes for personal computers at Collin County Community College and teaching insurance-related classes in her last job as a Field Compliance Coordinator. Sherry retired from the insurance industry in 2018 after 26 years, to be closer to family and to pursue her current position at St. John.

Sherry is excited to be a part of St. John and her past experience in various positions will be a welcome asset to St. John.


CHanesChris Hanes became the Ministry Assistant at St. John Lutheran Church in January 2019. Chris grew up in York, and worked for the Northeastern School District for 19 years. She retired in December 2018.

Chris has a husband, a son, and a daughter who now reside in heaven with the Lord. She also has a daughter, three grandchildren, and a Boston Terrier.


Chris enjoy taking walks, reading, crocheting, and spending time with her family.



BrookeBioPhotoBrooke LaNasa has been the Director of Contemporary Worship at St. John since July of 2020.

Brooke grew up in York, PA, and attended Central York High School. She graduated in 2020 from Messiah College (now University) with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Worship.

Brooke has always loved music and spent her childhood and adolescence in every choir she could find, including the York County Honors Choirs, and the various choirs at the Lutheran church she grew up in. In college, she was part of the Worship Community Core Leaders, Messiah’s Handbell Choir, and the gospel choir “United Voices of Praise.” She is eager to learn more about the community at St. John and serve Christ’s body musically in any way she can.

In her free time, Brooke enjoys any outdoor activity, socializing with friends, crafting, and spending time with her bearded dragon, Cera.



Pearl editMike Pearl joined the St. John Lutheran Church staff as a part-time Audio/Video Specialist for worship services in January 2019.  


Mike was born and grew up in York.  He graduated from William Penn Senior High School and received an Associate Degree from York Junior College (now York College of Pennsylvania).  Mike worked for over 30 years in commercial printing and 8 years in business continuity and disaster recovery planning in the insurance industry.  He retired in 2013.


Mike has a daughter and son-in-law who live in North Carolina, and he enjoys visiting them as much as possible.


Mike has been a St. John member for over 35 years.


Mokris1Kathy Mokris became the Director of the York Compassion Center in February 2018.  She grew up in Kentucky, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1984, and served 5 years as a Marine Corps Officer.

Kathy is also an active member of the York County Veterans Honor Guard, providing military funeral honors for our nation’s veterans.

She is married to Joe and has 3 sons.   

Her favorite Bible passage is John 15:12-13, “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.  Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”



RobRob Hunter became the Assistant Director at the York Compassion Center in May 2021.  Rob grew up in York, lived in Illinois, and Connecticut.  He graduated from Norwich Tech with a degree in Electronics.  

Rob has been at St. John since 2017, and is an engaged member of the church.  He enjoys hiking, playing video games, and collecting toys.

Rob is married to Heather, and has a son, 2 daughters, 2 dogs, and a rabbit.

His favorite Bible verse is: Romans 12:2, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind."
